The Eight

Thank you to Sky Island Journal for publishing my story The Eight in Issue 32! I was incredibly grateful to receive wonderful feedback along with the email that every writer waits for day after day – we would love to publish this piece!

After I received the email with the news for publication, I was incredibly touched when I received a hand-written postcard from Sky Island Journal’s mastheads, Jason Splichal and Jeff Sommerfeld. For anyone who knows me, I believe in the art of handwritten notes and journaling. I think there is something about pen to paper that creates a connection that can sometimes get lost in the thick of electronic journaling. Not that I’m against it – after all, I’m doing it here – but I go back and look and visit handwritten treasures frequently. Love notes from my kids, anniversary cards from my husband, cards from my grandmother who is no longer with me. Handwriting captures these incredible moments in time, and I will forever cherish one that validates my writing.

How great is this?!

If you’ve never read Sky Island Journal, please give them a visit and read some of the incredible contributors that are featured in both Issue 32 and previous other publications. And I hope you check out The Eight, an imagining of what my sleepaway camp experience would have been like as a child.
